We are please to announce the Annual Tom Harpstreith Memorial Youth Hunt, scheduled for January 25, 2026. This event is dedicated to honoring the memory of Torrington resident Tom Harpstreith, who left a lasting legacy in the waterfowl hunting community.

A Lasting Friendship and Commitment

In 1999, I had the privilege of volunteering as a guide for the annual Goshen County 2-Shot Goose Hunt. That year, I was fortunate to be paired with Tom Harpstreith. From that evening forward, Tom and I shared countless days in the field together, hunting nearly every day for the next 11 waterfowl seasons. Our partnership continued until Tom’s untimely passing in March 2010.

Preserving the Tradition

Tom was deeply concerned about the declining involvement of young people in hunting and shooting sports. He dedicated himself to ensuring that the tradition of waterfowl hunting would be passed down to future generations. In 2011, the Harpstreith family and friends established the Memorial Youth Hunt in his honor. To date, more than 500 youth hunters have participated in this important event.

Support and Participation

Donations play a crucial role in sustaining this tradition. Generous landowners throughout Goshen County donate their pits, and local guides volunteer their time, making the hunt completely free for participants. Donations are used to provide breakfast and luncheon for the hunters and their families, shotgun shells for each participant, gift bags, and raffle prizes. We respectfully request financial support from individuals and businesses to help cover the expenses associated with this event.
